Standards & Frameworks

Standards we work with

ISO 55000 Series

International Standard for Asset Management

The ISO 55000 series provides the foundational framework for asset management systems. It defines asset management as the coordinated activity of an organisation to realise value from assets, covering strategy, planning, lifecycle delivery and continuous improvement.

DC2O Perspective

DC2O uses ISO 55000 as the backbone of our advisory methodology. Every Farsight model is built on ISO 55000-aligned principles ensuring lifecycle cost projections connect directly to organisational objectives, not just technical maintenance schedules.

AS/NZS 4536:2014

Life Cycle Costing—An Application Guide

The Australian and New Zealand standard for life cycle costing provides a structured methodology for comparing options over the life of an asset. It covers cost classification, discount rates, sensitivity analysis and reporting requirements.

DC2O Perspective

This standard underpins our approach to lifecycle cost modelling. Farsight applies AS/NZS 4536 methodology with modern data analytics making whole-of-life comparisons accessible, transparent and defensible for capital planning teams.

ISO 15686-5:2017

Buildings and Constructed Assets—Service Life Planning—Part 5: Life-Cycle Costing

ISO 15686-5 provides the international framework specifically for whole-life costing of buildings and constructed assets. It defines cost categories, system boundaries, and reporting requirements for lifecycle cost analysis in the built environment.

DC2O Perspective

We apply ISO 15686-5 cost categorisation directly in Farsight ensuring our models capture the full spectrum of costs from acquisition through operation, maintenance, renewal and disposal. This standard is what separates genuine lifecycle cost modelling from simple maintenance budgeting.

AIQS / RICS BCIS

Quantity Surveying and Cost Data Standards

The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) provide benchmarking data, cost classification systems and professional standards for construction and lifecycle costing.

DC2O Perspective

Farsight integrates industry-standard cost data frameworks to ensure our lifecycle models reflect current market rates. We map component hierarchies to recognised cost classification systems, making outputs directly comparable with quantity surveying practice.

RICS New Rules of Measurement

NRM 3: Order of Cost Estimating and Cost Planning for Building Maintenance Works

NRM 3 provides the standard framework for estimating and planning the cost of building maintenance works throughout an asset\'s lifecycle. It establishes a consistent methodology for maintenance cost analysis, covering planned and reactive maintenance, component renewal and replacement cycles.

DC2O Perspective

NRM 3 informs our component-level cost structures in Farsight. By aligning with NRM 3 maintenance categories, our lifecycle models produce outputs that integrate seamlessly with facilities management cost reporting and benchmarking.

IFMA

International Facility Management Association Standards

IFMA establishes professional standards and competency frameworks for facility management practice globally. Their benchmarking data and best practice guides cover operations, maintenance, sustainability and workplace strategy across all property sectors.

DC2O Perspective

We reference IFMA benchmarks to validate operational cost assumptions in our lifecycle models. For clients with international portfolios, IFMA standards provide the common language that connects Australian lifecycle cost practice with global facility management frameworks.
